It was often used in rugs, tapestries and ceremonial clothing. The shape may have symbolized fertility, life or eternity. 🌍 To Europe: Scotland and Paisley In the 18th and 19th centuries, European manufacturers began copying the pattern, particularly in Paisley, a town in Scotland. Hence the name. Large quantities of scarves and fabrics bearing this pattern were produced there using industrial looms. 🌍Use in 19th-century fashion: Particularly popular in the Victorian era among women as a stylish accessory. 1960s – 1970s: A revival thanks to the hippie movement, particularly the Beatles (like Indian-inspired fashion). Today: It remains popular as a vintage-style pattern, in both classic and modern versions.
