Precious pair of venetian walnut bedsides according to jacques-emile ruhlmann. Surrounded on the sides, each fan-shaped piece of furniture is decorated in front of the door of a putto placed on a sphere. The inventiveness of the forms is combined with an extraordinary finesse of woodworking. The tray of each chevet is covered with a black marble of veined golzinne and surrounded by a delicate notched frieze characteristic of the art deco period, trampled in an eagle's greenhouse. Dimensions: h. 66 cm X l. 51 cm X l. 39 cm. Art deco period. Circa 1925. Jacques-emile ruhlmann (1879-1933) was born in paris to an alsatian family that owned a painting and subcontracting business. In 1919 he founded an interior design company with his friend pierre laurent, who was then known as the ruhlmann and laurent establishment. Together, they produce furniture, wallpapers, light fixtures and bronze objects. Among his most notable achievements are a variety of furniture made of rare wood such as brazilian rosewood or macassar ebony, often embellished with ivory or turtle shell elements. Ruhlmann's designs were purchased in france and abroad to decorate palaces, political buildings and national museums. His pieces can be found in the furnishings of the elysée palace, the metropolitan museum of art (new york), the brooklyn museum, the smithsonian cooper-hewitt national design museum and the museum of fine arts (boston).
