Cup "Cantharide" Former Royal Porcelain Factory of Limoges

Faithful reproduction by the maison bernardaud, of the cup created in 1789. The original is exhibited at the museum of sèvres. Very nice collector's item in perfect condition. The purification rituals performed every five years in rome are mentioned on this cup. Fruits and perfumes play a large part, but also cantharide powder that its aphrodisiac virtues attach to the cult of bacchus. The palette evokes the golden and shiny green body of the insect that, dried and crushed, provides this powder. Dimensions: under cup: diameter 13 cm cup: diameter 6 cm height 6 cm.
