The founder's grandson, jacques zolotnitsky, along with his nephew léon grinberg transferred it to paris around 1920 after the russian revolution. At the beginning of world war ii, alexander schaffer moved the store from paris to new york. It was, initially, one of the first tenants of rockefeller center in 1934, before moving to another site on 5th avenue in 1941, then at number 781 (in 1961) and finally to its current location in 2017.
