Bohemian painted music cabinet

This is an attractive antique cabinet which dates to the early 1900s. It was originally designed for use as a music cabinet, the fitted interior perfect for storing sheet music but is could be used for other items and could be adapted for use as a display cabinet simply by removing some of the interior shelves. The cabinet is quite compact, fairly narrow and not particularly large, so will suit a home with limited space. It is made of mahogany and has a decorative glazed door to the front set under a single wide drawer. The glazed door opens to reveal the natural wood interior fitted with five shelves. The top of the cabinet has a decorative mirror set over a narrow shelf which is set on turned supports. The top is finished with a broken pediment which has decorative carving. I have hand painted this piece in my own colour mixed to a bohemian looking green/blue which is rather continental looking, the colour is slightly greener than it looks in the photos, imagine a dark 'eau de nil' or 'duck egg blue'. The paintwork has been distressed well and then waxed for protection, it has a smooth low sheen finish. Measurements. Height-105.5cms to top of 'table top', 165cms to top of cabinet. Width-65.5cms at the top, 59cms at the base. Depth-47cms. Height between shelves is approximately 18cms. Condition. The cabinet is in solid structural condition with small cosmetic marks and knocks here and there. The side panels have a couple of filled shrinkage cracks below the painted surface and the top has two shrinkage cracks which have been filled. The back has had a newer peice of wood added and the lock does not have a key. The drawer interior has some marks of age and use. Share tweet 0 pin it.
