Description
An old carved wooden barometer decorated with florets. Holosteric system. Signed verchaly - optician – angers. Operation to be checked. Period: early twentieth century. Traces of xylophages (treated), broken thermometer glass. Dimensions: height 60 cm, width 25 cm. "holosteric" is a word created and deposited by naudet in 1860. From the greek holos, which means "whole", and stereos which means "solid", this expression recalls that it is only used in the manufacture of these barometers solids - which differentiates them from mercury barometers.
