Old Extendable BookEnd of Neo-Renaissance Style in Carved Oak

Period: ca. 19th century. A beautiful office accessory with the warm patina of antique oak. This sliding and extendable bookend is in the neo-renaissance style and probably dates from the 19th century when the renaissance style has experienced several revivals in different countries. It is likely that this piece is english. Both ends are beautifully carved and are composed of acanthus leaves around a shell; one is stationary while the other can be slipped into the parallel slots. They are slightly different sizes. The edge of the board has been adorned with a frieze of oves giving this piece a quality look. State: Very well. No damage. Some scratch marks corresponding to age.
