Ngbaka Mask African Art of DR Congo

Ngbaka circumcision mask from dr congo.dating: c. 1950. Dimensions: 33 X 19 cm. Materials: wood provenance: ex private collection, p. Vandenbergh, belgium. Provided with certificate of origin from an independent expert. This african ngbaka mask was held in front of the mouth to insist on the secret of the ritual of circumcision, a concept that is repeated here in the representation of the mouth as well as in the scarifications present on the nose, cheeks and forehead carried out with the circumcision knife.
