Armchair in molded and repainted beech, with arched backrest, studs in fluted balusters, dice of connections carved with rosettes, the curved belt, rests on tapered, fluted and rough feet. On the belt a label bearing the inscription in ink madame diane de polignac. Attributed to g. Jacob. Louis XVI period. Height: 91.5 cm. Width: 61.5 cm. Depth: 55 cm. Provenance: delivered around 1786 for the countess of polignac. Sale sotheby's monaco, 12. December 1998, lot 62 of a suite of three seats. Sister of jules de polignac, countess diane was named lady of honor of madame elisabeth in 1778. Sister-in-law of gabrielle de polastron, governess of the children of france and close friend of queen marie antoinette, diane de polignac emigrated in 1789 and settled in russia where she died during the restoration. Her function as lady of honor granted her an apartment in the palace of versailles and it is probably for this one that this simple but elegant furniture was created. Three seats of similar models were. Delivered by g.jacob dated march 23, 1786 for the pavilion of the count of provence in versailles.
