Rio oscar niemeyer lounge chair with black lacquered ash structure. Mattresses and head restraints coated in black full grain leather. The rio lounge chair is an armchair designed by brazilian architect oscar niemeyer and his daughter anna maria niemeyer in 1978. The structure of this seat consists of three arched elements. The first, the largest, serves as a point of balance for the chair. The other two, which are screwed to the first, serve as a support to receive the backrest and the seat. The material common to these three elements is the ash varnished in black with open pores. The seat and back of the chair are actually only one element long enough to support the user's legs, hence the name "chaise longue". The cylindrical head restraint is equipped with two leather cords at each end. These small ropes are equipped with weights to facilitate the adjustment of the head restraint. I bought it new in 1998. It is in very good general condition and has only a slight trace of wear on the frame (attached photo), some fine scratches on the underside (part placed on the ground) and a small shock in the wood at the back (attached photo). The leather is in excellent condition. The seat cushion and head restraint are not collapsed at all.
