Description
Small flail scale for delicate weighing, composed in the center of a vertical brass knife, topped with a graduated ladder. The latter, associated with the needle located in the middle of the scourge, makes it possible to follow the movements and to determine the points of equilibrium. This horizontal axis supports equidistant two stirrups, themselves provided with two trays with small handles inlaid with letters, all removable and brass. The base of this weighing instrument is walnut. It opens through a drawer with a small draw button with fine moldings, revealing a compartmentalized space lined with weights. These are marked 'a*b' and their masses range from 5 to 100 grams. This decorative element, in working order, is also supplied with two cups with a tare of 10 grams, which allow us to affirm that this beautiful precision balance was used to measure gold. It should be noted that this trebuchet is equipped with a device for manually actuating the lifting of the central axis, thus separating the trays from the support plane to place them in suspension. On the base has been preserved a metal plate, stamp of the parisian manufacture to which we owe this small balance: 'maison besson et les instruments de pesage réunis'. ******** Period: 1900. Perfect condition. Three small weights missing. Size: Base: length: 35 cm width: 17.5 cm height: 6.5 cm. Total height: 40.5 cm. Ref: 719 q.
