Japanese Kokeshi wisdom monkeys

Vintage and artisanal wooden doll - mizaru, kikazaru and iwazaru. All kokeshis consist of two parts: a head and a body that is usually cylindrical and symbolizes the wish and desire to have a healthy child. These dolls are offered, in the japanese tradition, to declare friendship or love to the person who receives it. Made of dried wood between one and five years old, they are painted and decorated, then covered with lacque.
