Two-tone pitcher in sandstone by louis lourioux (1874-1930). Louis lourioux began his production in foëcy during the art nouveau period with motifs inspired by the animal and plant world, then he turned to an art deco style, more refined and geometric. This pitcher is part of a series that louis lourioux devotes to cucurbits, playing on the effects of colors and materials. Thus, this pitcher, whose lower part with blue glaze imitates the stone and contrasts with the upper part and the cove covered with a cream-colored spotted glaze. This pitcher is signed under the base of the brand à la louve, signature used between 1915 and 1920. Note a small ginning on the pouring spout.
