Ashtray

Rare old ashtray, empty pocket, of the shipping company signed faience d'art proceram made in france. Noted a small lack of enamel on one side. The compagnie des messageries maritimes (mm) is a prestigious french shipping company, independent from 1851 to 23 february 1977, then merged with the compagnie générale transatlantique (cgt) to form the compagnie générale maritime (cgm). Procéram is a former jewel of ceramics in aubagne, it was created in 1908 under the name of "société des faïenceries d'aubagne" (s.f.a.). Specialized in tableware and tiles, the s.f.a., driven by permanent innovations, quickly established itself as one of the largest local producers. Briefly renamed faïencerie nouvelle de provence between 1929 and 1938, it will pass to posterity under the name of proceram from 1939. The company ceased operations in 1977.
