Description
Chilean 1960 raw wood, with armrests and foot rests. New mustard-coloured fabric. A few spin holes in the wood. Traces of normal wear. —- Ideal in the living room or garden, or for the pros in a shop window or photo studio. —- 💡 a little history. Whether on a beach, in the shade of a terrace or on a city balcony, this comfortable seat sounds like an inseparable element of summer. The one in which we decide to open a book and where, finally, we do not like it. If the sunbed has now become a standard of garden furniture, its history smells rather the fresh air of the open sea. Indeed, the first seats of this type made their official appearance on the liners making the transatlantic crossing (between europe and america), as early as the end of the 19th century. On land, with the arrival of paid holidays in france in 1936, and the birth of mass tourism, the sunbed also spreads on the beaches. The rattan is replaced by a solid fabric canvas, and the frame is now made of teak, acacia or beech. If its original paternity is not known, modernist designers will have fun redesigning this new seat model. Among the best known is the transat chair, by french architect and designer robert mallet-stevens (1886-1945). This very uncluttered model, made of a simple off-white cotton canvas, suspended from a green lace-up sheet structure, was designed to decorate the swimming pool of viscount charles de noailles' villa in hyères, var, between 1923 and 1925. The habitat brand reissued it in 2014. —- Fast and neat shipping. Colissimo: $26. —- Paris: for the express shipping pros 2 days 95 (contact me).
