Nevers Montagnon cup bird decoration mid-XXth

Old standing cup with polylobed edges, with a decoration in shades of blue of a bird placed on a branch, surrounded by flowers. In nevers earthenware by jean montagnon. Signed on the back of the classic green knot for "nevers" and the inscription montagnon j.m. Period: half xxth. Dimensions: height 6.5 cm, diameter 22.5 cm. Good condition. The montagnon family knew several faience artists: antoine, gabriel, and jean. In 1937, jean montagnon succeeded his father at the head of the earthenware factory, which he managed until 1978. He modernized it with the use of the electric oven, he expanded the range of enamels and created some pieces of art deco style. He trained painters, five of whom became best workers in france.
