Authentic african comb from ghanaian dignitary ashanti akan. Dating: c. 1960. Dimensions: 23 cm. Materials: wood. Provenance: ex private collection, france. Provided with certificate of origin from an independent expert. African combs of this type were used by high-ranking women in ashanti to create the very elaborate and aesthetic hairstyles they wore. On this comb is a small circular head, strongly related to the akua ba figurines that were used to ensure fertility. This beautiful example is decorated with fine geometric patterns, it is topped with an animal figure. Undoubtedly a beautiful well-preserved ancient object.
