Historical: After studying at the school of decorative arts in nice, albert thiry trained in various pottery workshops, notably at charles voltz (1923-1997). In vallauris, in 1956, he joined claire and rené batigne, who ran the green carpet workshop, and rubbed shoulders with marcel vertès (1895-1961) and anton prinner (1902-1983), who introduced him to sculpture. He married pyot gavaudan (1933-), who worked for marcel giraud (1897-1985) as a decorator and model. Together they then made two types of productions: one related to the decorative arts (tableware and lighting) and the other only sculptural (dreamlike and animal figures). They developed a technique of hollow engraving and decoration in the chamoted earth. From 1966 to 1974, albert thiry participated in the vallauris biennials, and was awarded the honorary degree in 1971. Albert thiry gained notoriety through his dreamlike characters.
