Portrait of an unknown artist

Mesmerising portrait of an unknown artist. Is it a self portrait Is the gaze at the mirror Every time I look at this portrait I see kafka - but not everyone agrees and although I know kafka drew i've never associated him with a paint brush! I find this portrait quite haunting (in a nice way) - it's a portrait that stays with me - long after i've moved away I still see the artist's regard. Although he's looking askance the stare is very direct. A compelling painting. The painting is signed. I can't read the signature but it looks eastern european. Oil on canvas. Unframed. In good vintage condition.
