Description
Here is a work by frans masereel, we find his characteristic technique. It depicts a seated child whose hands are placed on a table. We find the palette of frans masereel. There is a signature "fm", it is the monogram of frans masereel, also a dedication at the back "for simone and roger thomas". Frans masereel (30 or 31 july 1889 – 3 january 1972) was a belgian engraver, painter and illustrator. He mainly worked between switzerland, germany and france. Author of a profuse work, tireless illustrator, pedagogue, his best known graphic work is undoubtedly mon livre d'heures (1919): he is considered as such as the precursor of the graphic novel. The support is made of cardboard. The frame is original, it is a cerused frame, typical of 1944. Note some cracks and small gaps (see photos). The work has been very well preserved by time, we report slight friction on the elbows and in the hair. For the state thank you to detail the photos. A4550. Feel free to zoom in.
