In the taste of Janine abraham (1929-2005) Lemon-shaped rattan table, with magazine holder under the tray. Handles worked in wicker. Collector's item. Very good condition, beautiful honey color patina. Some traces of wear (especially scratches on the tray) 50 X 83 X 55cm. Janine abraham (1929-2005) Daughter of auvergne teachers, janine abraham discovered very early an attraction for drawing and wanted to become an illustrator. On the advice of her father, she joined the ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts. She stayed there for two years, and preferred to move towards furniture creation by entering the camondo school. After graduating in 1952, she did internships with decorators rené-jean caillette, where she was introduced to rattan, then with maxime old, her former teacher of contemporary decorative art. Put in touch through the journalist lucien veillon with meubles tv, publisher of contemporary furniture in the faubourg saint-antoine district, she began her career as a solo designer and designed on behalf of this publisher a wallet table called 117 and the bahut 102 with strict lines. She then collaborated with the rougier house - still an artisanal company specializing in rattan - for which she designed a whole series of furniture (bed, driver, dressing table...) which will be presented at the marseille fair in 1954. She is involved in jacques dumond's agency and will meet dirk jan rol. Janine abraham and dirk jan rol decided, therefore, to form a couple in life and at work and signed with their two names all the projects until the end of their career. They founded their agency in 1957 while exhibiting already in 1956 at the salon des artistes décorateurs. Alternating their participation in the salon des arts ménagers as in the salon des artistes décorateurs, they present furniture where the recurrence of rattan marks – through the volumes thus created – their vision of modernity.
