Stoneware storage jar with blue decoration – La Chapelle des Pots

Originating from the ceramic tradition of La Chapelle-des-Pots, this glazed stoneware storage pot showcases the utilitarian and decorative craftsmanship of the workshop, active from 1960 to 2012. A production that successfully combined rural heritage with a gentle aesthetic, designed for everyday use as well as decoration. The cylindrical shape, generous and well-balanced, is highlighted by two discreet side handles, facilitating handling. The ribbed neck adds a subtle graphic rhythm, while the slightly satin ivory white glaze enhances the texture of the stoneware and the quality of the glazing. The hand-painted decoration in shades of grey-blue combines stylised foliage and a naive architectural scene, typical of the reimagined rural imagery characteristic of La Chapelle-des-Pots. Each motif presents slight variations, a signature of deliberately lively artisanal work. The matching lid, decorated with small plant motifs, harmoniously completes the ensemble. The interior and base, left in raw clay, recall the primary purpose of this pot: the storage of dry food, salt, or provisions, while still remaining a strong decorative piece today. In good vintage condition, with slight signs of use and age, perfectly consistent with the piece's age and use. Note the manufacturing defect, a vertical line on the pot (see photos). Height with lid 15 cm, without lid 13 cm, diameter at the opening 10 cm, width including handles 15 cm, base diameter 12 cm. Capacity approximately 1 litre.
