Stoneware sculpture / Roof finial in slag-glazed stoneware, signed at the base "J-M Doix - Coulanges". Height 84 cm Maximum Width 42 cm Note a small chip at the base. Delivery in Paris and the inner suburbs: €45 To quote J-M Doix himself: "It was a high school drawing teacher who introduced me to ceramics at a very early age, as well as the Contemporary Art Center at the Château de Ratilly (89), run by the Pierlot family. It was there that I discovered, among others, the works of Hamada and Leach, and I decided to become a potter. Roger Jacques, Robert Deblander, then Anne Kjaerjaard and Jean Linard were the first professionals to offer me help and advice when I set up my workshop in 1968 and built a three-chamber wood-fired kiln (first firing in 1969). From the beginning, I focused on a style of production that was familiar to me: the Puisaye tradition and folk art. I make pieces either unglazed or glazed with slag, but my connection to other cultures has never been neglected. My Catalan origins perhaps explain my taste for Baroque exuberance and glazed earthenware, a technique I developed alongside my high-temperature work. My utilitarian pottery, my architectural and sculptural creations, have been developed through these multiple encounters for over forty years…"
