Rustic or regional French style armchair related to the Louis Philippe or Directoire style in its country version, probably dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century. This is a high-backed armchair, referred to as a desk chair or regional salon chair. The structure is made of solid wood (fruit woods such as pear or cherry, or stained beech). The seat is made of traditionally woven rye straw in four converging triangular elements. The backrest features a fan or lyre motif with fine curved spindles (inspired by Directoire/Consulate style), topped with a high, shaped crossbar and flanked by two small wooden turned domes or spindles. The front legs and stretchers are turned wood (typical turning work of 19th-century rustic furniture). The slightly curved front crossbar is decorated with incised geometric patterns (small triangles or simple inlays), reflecting careful craftsmanship. The straw seat is in good condition, well-tensioned and not sagging. The wood shows a patina of use, the structure is sound and stable, with no visible signs of pest damage. Ideal for Country Chic decor. Width 61, depth 55, total height/seat height 113/35.
