Description
Antique french porcelain sauce boat in white with the head of a mythical beast. It is this kind of thing that marks the memory of a child. Always she will remember that on sundays the gravy at grandmother's house was served from a wonderful old sauce boat with a funny dragons head... This is a beautiful old french sauce boat (or 'sauciere' in french), in a classic shape and it is made of a high quality pure white translucent porcelain that suggests it was likely made in the late 1800s / early 1900s at limoges in one of the many factories operating there at the time. This piece has a beautifully moulded handle in the shape of the head of a mythical beast. Sometimes these old porcelain pieces will have a makers mark, sometimes not. This piece which is unmarked is in superb condition with no chips or cracks. To my mind, one might choose this fine thing as an embodiment of 'graceful' form. It seems to me to be perfect in its proportions with no decoration beyond the charming beasts' head which serves as the handle. This piece measures approx. 8 1/2 inches long and 6 1/2 inches high. A truly charming and elegantly 'old-fashioned' piece...and 'so french.'.
