Lajos Kozma – Mid-century dining or salon seating set of 6, 1940s. This mid-century seating ensemble consists of two armrest benches (often described as dining or salon sofas) and two matching dining chairs, designed as a coherent set in the 1940s. Made from solid oak, all pieces share the same architectural vocabulary: clean, rational lines, carefully balanced proportions, and a lightweight appearance achieved through refined construction. The seats retain their original webbing, secured with the original tacks, and all structural joints and details remain intact. The condition is outstanding. The set is entirely unrestored, with original surfaces preserved and only minimal, natural patina visible. The wood shows no signs of drying or structural fatigue; joints are tight and stable, making the furniture fully suitable for everyday use despite its museum-level originality. Functionally, the benches are designed for two persons each—ideal for use as dining benches, salon seating, or waiting-area furniture—while the chairs complete the set as dining or auxiliary seating. This combination reflects Kozma’s late, mid-century design approach: practical, restrained, and human-scaled, distinct from his earlier Art Deco work. As a complete and authentic group, this set represents a rare and increasingly scarce example of Hungarian mid-century design in original condition, suitable for collectors, refined interiors, or institutional contexts.
