The Mushroom® chair (F560) by Pierre Paulin, globally renowned, is an intergenerational chair. Designed in 1960, it is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The result of Pierre Paulin's first collaboration with Artifort, the Mushroom® chair was the first to completely conceal its structural elements within a unique sculptural form. A tubular metal structure, arranged in interconnected circular shapes, is padded with foam and covered in stretch fabric – an innovative approach for its time. Pierre Paulin, one of the greatest designers of his era, draws his influences from Scandinavian furniture and the American productions of Charles Eames and Florence Knoll. In 1958, the furniture publishing house Artifort, based in Maastricht, turned towards contemporary furniture and gathered a team of creators including Pierre Paulin. P. Paulin contributed to the design of the Denon wing of the Louvre Museum and in 1970 furnished the private apartments of President Pompidou at the Élysée. He then designed the offices of President François Mitterrand. This chair is in remarkable condition. The Kvadrat wool fabric in beige with pinkish hues is in perfect condition. No marks, no deficiencies. Displayed but not used. For lovers of the great history of French design.
