Antique framed picture embroidered on woven silk made by neyret frères of st etienne, france. Neyret produced woven silk scenes and ribbons on jacquard looms, much like stevengraphs. I was reading about neyret and they sometimes used 12 silk threads of different gray colors to get the right tonal perspectives in their scenes. Only top quality chinese silk was used. Neyret ceased its activities in 1970 after 145 years of activity. This particular silk painting depicts the crucifixion of jesus. In addition to black and gray tones, neyret used yellow threads to create rays of light that descend through the clouds and illuminate both jesus and mary magdalene, prostrate at the foot of the cross. The use of color in neyret's paintings is not common. The piece is framed in a simple wooden frame in black-brown tones imitating wood. The frame measures 38x21.5cm. Right. The piece is in very good condition without any notable defects. This is an exceptional quality image – beautiful, very realistic depiction of the crucifixion. As these are vintage objects, they may show signs due to their antiquity.
