Description
A sustained and elegant tribute to the grandiloquent style of the reign of louis xiv, this boulle marquetry table presents on the top and belt chanished and lacquered in black motifs of tortoiseshells on a brass background. It is therefore a counterpart and, with its brass counterpart on a background of scales, our table must have once adorned an opulent apartment, a bourgeois house or even a castle. The tray is bordered by a frieze of oves and the belt, raised with central rosettes, conceals a drawer. Beautiful caryatids with fine lines act as falling corners while the feet are embedded in ornate hooves. The whole is in very good condition.
